Sales have soared by more than a third at a luxury leather firm in Walsall which has launched a new line of products that have been catching the eye of retailers worldwide.

Bosses at Marlborough World are hoping the firm’s new weekend and tote bags, and iPad and Kindle cases will appeal to a younger generation and help secure new contracts.

Production has started to increase at the manufacturing hub in Corporation Street West as orders roll in, and the company is hoping it will soon be able to take on more staff.

Owner Richard Taylor said retailers from America, Australia and China had already started enquiring about the new products which are being supplied to major stores in the UK.

He said: “I think we will sell a lot of bags. It has helped us get into exclusive stores.

“We have signed contracts with major shops but cannot reveal who they are at this time.

“Compared to last year, at this time, our sales are up 35 per cent.

“I’m hoping to increase sales by at least 20 per cent across all products.

“We have never offered bags before.

“We want to grow the company and reach a younger generation.

“They are top quality products.

“The idea for the bag came from a Gladstone bag but it’s our own design.

“We wanted to create a timeless design with a modern twist and we wanted it to look fresh so they are still appealing to buy in years to come.”

The new products were launched to celebrate the firm marking its 40th birthday this year.

Mr Taylor said the firm’s 16 staff were working at full capacity dealing with the influx of orders and new contracts would lead to more positions opening up.

“We do want to take on more staff on the bag side of the business but it depends on how big the new contracts become,” he added.

The firm, which makes luxury leather and stainless steel gifts, moved from a base in Bilston to a bigger manufacturing hub in Fairground Way, last year.
